Magnolia Bar & Grill -

1398 S. Second St. - Louisville (Central Louisville)

It's dirty, the people are dirty, the men's room is 3rd World. I sometimes leave their feeling like I could have crapped on the bar and still left the place fresher than I found it. I love the body art though...and the jukebox is simply the best ever. Where else can you have a young Fidel Castro serving you Miller High Life while listening to Iggy Pop b-sides.

Third Street Dive -

440 S. Third St. - Louisville (Downtown)

It's like when kids have to share a playground in school...it is the only reason you would ever see so many opposing forces sharing sharing such a small space like Downtown Louisville. The young scenesters and vapid tarts flock to 4th Street and nearby the uglier, dirtier crowd goes to 3rd St. Dive, behind the tree at the far corner of the parking lot, reassuring each other that they are cool. Drink down a cold PBR and try to shout over the song the bartender likes so much he can't resist cranking it up to 11 with the little mini sound board they have sitting on the end of the bar. I'll hit this place anytime. I still haven't been to 4th Street Live. Not out of simple perverseness but because I have yet to have much of a reason to. I'm married, big, hairy, ugly, and poor.

Pour Haus -

1481 S. Shelby St. - Louisville (Central Louisville)

The kids in this joint make me feel old. They're all so cute too all artfully alternative with their tattoos, piercings and thrift store clothes. It is like a Murray State Art Department field trip. The bar sucks really. The back room makes it though with the prancing and posing children of cold mothers and distant fathers. So much room to crowd in for a band the likes of which you will never see anywhere else. I feel like a creepy old man alone at the playground whenever I am there. I'm a foot taller than all of them, 180 lbs heavier and 1000 times balder. I pooh bigger than all of them yet it is fun to watch them not squandering their youth like I did.
