Amici Cafe: It claims to have "Old Louisville's most romantic courtyard," and we think that's right. Honorable mention: L&N Wine Bar and Bistro, Melillo's.

El Mundo: This Clifton joint is tiny, but its flavorful brand of Mexican dishes are so, so delicious. Honorable mention: Toast, Mayan Cafe.

North End Cafe: Our favorite breakfast somehow tastes even better on North End's bucolic porch. Honorable mention: Lynn's Paradise Cafe, Monkey Wrench.
Where the wild things are
Cafe 360: The Bonnycastle neighborhood has become our little version of Haight-Ashbury, and there is no better place to witness life's rich pageant than this funky café. Honorable mention: Kashmir, O'Shea's.

Le Relais: Known for French cuisine and fine wine served in the historic Bowman Field terminal, Le Relais offers something even more striking during warmer weather. Honorable mention: Bristol Bar & Grille, Cup of Sunshine Tea House & Cafe.
Great outdoors, even greater food
Seviche: Owner/chef Anthony Lamas makes some of the best food in the city, and with a large patio, it's the kind of place where you feel at the center of Highlands foodie culture and nightlife. Honorable mention: Asiatique, 610 Magnolia.
We all scream for ice cream
Dairy Kastle: Louisvillians get carried away with fancy-schmancy cuisine. Sometimes ice cream just needs to be soft serve, damn it. Honorable mention: Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen, Starlight Frozen Custard.
Where to see the beautiful people
Avalon: The huge patio offers plenty of prime people watching. And it doesn't hurt that many of Avalon's patrons and passers-by are pretty easy on the eyes. Honorable mention: Uptown Cafe, Maker's Mark Lounge.
