Harvest Restaurant and Slow Food Bluegrass will present a Seed to Table Dinner inspired by Deborah Madison’s new book, “Vegetable Literacy,” on Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. Madison will join a lineup of female chefs to prepare the plant-based meal.
“What really drew me to do this is that it benefits a school garden grant,” Madison says. “That’s one of the best things happening … and that’s easy to say yes to.”
Madison says she looks forward to returning to Louisville, which she last visited when she cooked with Kathy Cary of Lilly’s around 1997.
“I am so honored that she is stopping by Louisville,” Cary says. “She has many fans and with the farmers markets in full bounty her book will be well received.”
Cary will join Coby Ming of Harvest, along with Annie Pettry (Decca), Star Auerbach (Stellar Sweets), Claudia Delatorre (Cake Flour), chef Nancy Shoenhoff, Sherry Hurley (Farm to Fork Catering), Rachel Reigelman (Sage Dining Services) and Deanna Rushing (Wiltshire Bakery).
The four-course menu, which will feature local ingredients, will be determined closer to the dinner. The event costs $85 and all proceeds benefit the Slow Food Bluegrass School Garden Grant.
The new book, Madison adds, is “not about gardening. It’s about seeing our world and bringing it so much more into focus. People can get very serious, but it’s so much fun to cook and be alive.”
Rainbow Blossom, 3046 Bardstown Road, will hold a book signing and discussion Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
