A barbecue- and pork-inspired culinary competition is coming to Butchertown Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. at The Pointe, 1205 E. Washington St.
Porktoberfest will feature fare from more than a dozen local restaurants, along with beer from Apocalypse Brew Works (which will feature Butchertown Brown, brewed just for the event), Prohibition-era cocktails and live music by Hog Operation and Johnny Berry.
The free event “embodies our history of being a meat-processing neighborhood,” says organizer Summer Auerbach. “Most of the restaurants (participating) use heritage and locally sourced pigs so we’re having fun with the theme.”
Proceeds from Porktoberfest will benefit the Butchertown Neighborhood Association. “The neighborhood is ultimately going to develop,” says Auerbach. “The goal is to become like the meatpacking district in New York City.”
Attendees can purchase tastes for $2 each from participating restaurants — which include Atria, Cellar Door Chocolates, Decca, Farm to Fork, Harvest, Holy Grale, Jack Knife, Momma’s Pickles Mustard and BBQ, Monkey Wrench, Morels, Rye, St. Charles Exchange, Stellar Sweets, The Bristol and Wiltshire — and vote on their favorite. Prizes will be awarded in five categories, including People’s Choice.
