We ate at John E's tonight and I can confidently say we won't be going back. I ordered the fish (which was actually good) and asked her to hold the slaw because I don't like slaw. She recommended I substitute it with a salad, so I agreed. My friend's steak was charred to the point where he ate one bite and was so disgusted, he wouldn't eat anything else. The server apologized and told my friend that she wouldn't charge him. When we get the bill the server says 'the manager took half of it off for you'... I was floored. My friend only ate ONE bite of the ENTIRE meal and he's being charged half?! Then, I got charged $5.00 for the salad that I supposedly 'substituted'. When I asked to speak to the manager, the waitress disappeared for 5 minutes and then came back saying they took the entire steak off. The manager never came out to speak to us and I was still charged for my salad. I didn't even want to fight it anymore so we left. It was truly the worst experience I've had at a restaurant. Although I will say my fish was fine and the Host named Michael was extremely nice.
