One of the finest cafes in the city is aptly named the City Cafe.
A hot spot for Louisville lunchers for years, it offers affordable and imaginative options.
The atmosphere is very family-friendly and the dress code is equally as laid-back, shorts and a T-shirt are fine. But downtown you're more likely to find the 9 to 5 types here most days, maybe even an employee or two from the Courier-Journal or Velocity, which are located right next door.
The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the portions of the sandwiches, soups and salads. And there's something for everyone, including vegans.
Each location has its own daily specials in meat, vegetarian and soup. At Broadway, for example the week of June 16, you could get over the hump on Wednesday with the chicken enchilada casserole with sour cream & salsa or the hummus platter with pitas or the black bean & sweet potato soup.
Popular items include the smoked oven roasted turkey breast and the vegetarian club as well as the tuna and tarragon almond chicken salads.
