'Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!'
The best: Dean Martin (from "Christmas with Dino")
Another holiday chestnut that defies all attempts at modernist makeovers, “Let It Snow!” never found a more sympathetic interpreter than Dino, a professional lush and Sinatra sidekick who’d much rather sit by the fire drinking brandy and hitting on your girlfriend than venture out into the wintry mix for some healthy outdoor activity. That he manages to make all of this sound charming and quaint is what makes Martin’s version so tough to top.
The worst: Jessica Simpson (from "Rejoyce: The Christmas Album")
It’s hard to find anything good to say about Simpson’s over-the-top 2004 Christmas album, “Rejoyce,” and even harder to describe the sheer bluster of the disc’s opening track, a cover of “Let It Snow!” that deserves at least three additional exclamation points—and maybe a question mark or two.
Also performed by: Aly & AJ, Boyz II Men, Frank Sinatra, Chris Isaak, Diana Krall, Kenny G, Mannheim Steamroller, Michael Bolton, Michael Bublé, the Brian Setzer Orchestra.
