Right now, I've been listening a lot to a band called the Flamin' Groovies, especially the albums "Flamingo" and "Teenage Head." It's just this '70s rock, Southern rock thing. Real great guitar work -- lots of great guitar licks -- and very cool lyrics.
Recently, I've been really into "The Up Series" from Britain. They profiled these kids at age 7 and have interviewed them every seven years since. It's just great to follow the kids, to predict how they'll turn out. I just watched "28 Up," and I was really interested because I'm 27. It was right when they were trying to figure out their adult selves.
I don't have cable, but my fiancé (Ladybirds bassist Jaxon Swain) and I watch a lot of television shows on DVD. We're big into "The X-Files." It's not just aliens; it's got a lot of great conspiracy theories. I can spend marathon sessions on that show.
I love the "Harry Potter" series. J.K. Rowling just creates really fun, creative worlds with all these great characters. I totally cried during the last one, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
"She's Come Undone" is by Wally Lamb and is about this character named Dolores who has a troubled childhood and it follows her as she grows up. I enjoy books and movies about personal journeys and relationships. It's just touching.
I'm a Paristown inhabitant, so I go to Seidenfaden's (1134 E. Breckenridge St.) a lot. It's kind of like my Cheers, because I'm there all the time and I know everybody there. And I love the Nachbar (969 Charles St.) -- you can't beat their beer selection.
De la Torre's (1606 Bardstown Road) is authentic Spanish cuisine -- not Mexican food. It's just a very nice little restaurant. And it has this great European ambiance. And I really like the tapas bar next door, La Bodega, because the owner makes a great Manhattan.
