The Don Krekel Orchestra will pay tribute to one of America’s great composers with “Magical Musical Memories of Mancini,” a concert featuring the music of Henry Mancini.
Mancini has been a huge part of popular culture since the 1950s, when he was writing music for films such as “Touch of Evil” and “The Creature From the Black Lagoon,” both of which featured ominous scores with alarming crescendos that set an ideal mood. Among his more famous compositions are the iconic theme from “Peter Gunn,” a 1958 television show about a private investigator; “Moon River,” from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”; and, of course, “The Pink Panther Theme,” perhaps history’s most perfectly realized film song.
The Don Krekel Orchestra will celebrate Mancini Sunday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at John E’s Restaurant, 3708 Bardstown Road. Admission is free, but not John E’s famous fried chicken.
