Best songs of 2008
When we look back on 2008 a decade from now, we might remember it as the last year that albums mattered as much as songs. Yes, Radiohead turned the...

Ewww Estelle? Really...the list was almost respectable then...then..Estelle. Its so on point trend wise it seems arguably worth a top ten (generous) but No. 1. Let's just give it to MIA. Paper Planes flew under radar long enough to become an underground favorite before emerging to mainstream, if for nothing else, to catch a new breeze. Now, that is a #1 song.

How could we forget the Black Key's amazing contribution "Psychotic Girl". Gnarles Barkley blew us away with multiple tracks of The Odd Couple, but "Going On" was our favorite. And although the crew at Metro thinks Beck's "Gamma Ray" was the better of the two singles, we still feel "Modern Guilt" is just plain a better song. Just a few thoughts from FreddieBlack.

No "Help Me" by Alkaline Trio? It's a travesty when the truly good music is overlooked for what gets the most radio airplay... awfully corporate isn't it?

38. Kid Rock, “All Summer Long” For awhile, we tried to hate this track, but we finally had to give in. Mashing up “Sweet Home Alabama” with “Werewolves of London” is straight-up trailer-trash genius. It seems your comments above are to associate the State of Alabama with the term "trailer-trash". Apparently you don't know, there are many dignified people who live in Alabama and are not considered 'trailer-trash". You might also need to know, there is "trailer-trash" in every state of the union.

This list is a Joke.. No mention of the new ACDC album, which has been #1 worldwide, and not to mention that every concert has been sold out...

Where's Coldplay? You've shown yourself as bogus. What a joke.

Bleecchhh!!! I would not buy a single one of those songs! Geez! Who told these people they were up on the best music? Somebody lied to 'em!

The Ting Tings are GREAT i just bought their album. The best tune on their album is "We walk". They first got my attention though with "That's not my name" during the Victoria Secret fashion show. I wish them lots of luck!! As far as Kanye, American Boy was so overplayed, just like most of the current top 40 and hip hop. I have yet though to hear the Ting Tings on any Arizona station.

Rihanna the decade's best dance pop diva? LOOL Madonna's Confessions has better songs than all the singles Rihanna has released!! And Britney has better songs and more success than her! Oh I got it, you were kidding. That's okay.

This is all crap. Did the record companies pay you for placement?

If you're going by actual release dates, many of these songs were released as singles in 2008 (even if the album came out in 2007). Haters like "Heather" and "Mongo" could back up their disses with, I don't know, some alternatives?

Lame. Most of these suck. Especially anything with Kanye.

Half of these songs are terrible songs aimed at 15 year old high school kids. Most of these songs will be forgotten in a few years.

These songs by Black Kids, Vampire Weekend and M.I.A. were all on my "best-of" list... for 2007! The rest of the list is quite good, but you're a little late to the party!

There's something for everyone (and something for everyone to argue about) on this or any list. Taste is taste, but I digress.. PLEASE do yourself one favor and try an experiment. Turn your computer up a little loud and listen to Sammy Hagar's (yes, that Sammy Hagar) single Cosmic Universal Fashion. Now convince me and try and convince yourself the track doesn't deserve at least your respect, attention and a place damn high on this list! It's just that good!

nice, I agree with most of it, but I really think dizzee rascal, kings of leon and pendulum deserve a mention. When you are talking about the songs of 2008 i think that Sex On Fire (KoL), Dance Wiv Me(Dizzee) or Propane Nightmares (Pendulum) probably sum up the year best. Also agree with fungo3, the new springsteen album was biblically good, Magic is such a tune. Nice list though

This is easily the worst list of pop music that has ever been assembled. There are a few songs that deserve to be up there. But most of that is just crap. Honestly, stop listening to most of the junk they play on the radio and go down to your local record shop (if they still exist in your area) and check out a few local indie bands. Even then. What the hell? No NIN or their efforts to release music on their own terms? Where's Murs and his album, Murs for President? Before you write a blog entry. Try listening to something other than what your handlers feed you. Sometimes it tastes a little better.
