Whiskey is the drink of choice to go with hardcore mountain music and metal, styles of music that have more in common thematically than you might imagine. This weekend at Dillinger’s Music Venue, 203 E. Main St. in New Albany, a couple of whiskey-related bands prove the point.
Tonight, The Whiskey Riders deliver their “End of the World Zombie Bash,” which is a nod to the Mayan calender with a key enhancement: zombies. The Whiskey Riders are the obvious choice for the soundtrack, because the band’s combination of metal, punk and blues is like a baseball bat to the head, which is meant as a compliment.
On Saturday, assuming there is one, the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys will deliver bluegrass music straight out of mountain barn dances, as opposed to the bluegrass festival circuit. Big difference. This is largely a happy bunch — more celebration songs than murder ballads — and if we’re all still alive, there’s your reason to celebrate.
Both shows start at 9 p.m., and cover is $5.
