Judy Greer and Matthew Lillard on what drew them to the script…
JG: "I liked that [the character] confused me, I didn't really understand what she was doing. I thought it would be fun to explore that, and explore that with Alexander Payne because if I was bad he would make me be good. The [emotionally charged] hospital scene to me was challenging because there were so many reasons for [the character] going there, so many reasons why she wouldn't go there, so many feelings she would have once she was there."
ML: "I think that's why Alexander Payne is so amazing. I don't think there's anything cut and dry in the movie. It's outside the box, it isn't what you'd expect. It isn't really a drama, isn't really a comedy, it's hard to cut a trailer because it's not really easily pigeon-holed. Right now we're being spoon-fed so many things, and he comes along and changes the game."
