The "Black Swan" director is earning some of the season's biggest raves for his intense ballerina psycho-drama.
Natalie Portman has talked a little about the lack of standard Hollywood amenities on the set of your movie, 'Black Swan'...
That's the reality of independent film. It's not about the luxuries off the set, it's about getting the quality onto the screen. I didn't have a trailer, we barely slept, the food was terrible. It was not glamorous, it's hard work.
What kind of prep work did she go through?
It was clear that she was going to have to lose weight to fit in with the actual dancers. Because they're close to nothing! So I just said, "Make sure that you have a good nutritionist!" She was able to maintain her blood sugar, so she was not only comfortable but even athletic on set.
Did her diet affect her mood or her performance?
It didn't affect her at all, she's a complete professional. I've worked with other actors who have been on diets, and sometimes it's really tough. But somehow it was never an issue with her. She was never grouchy!
Will there be ballet in the 'Wolverine' movie you're doing next?
Haha, yeah, I dunno. Maybe?
