Steve Buscemi: Lead actor, drama
Hollywood was up bright and early this morning as Emmy nominations were announced. USA TODAY's Donna Freydkin, Bill Keveney and Andrea Mandell are working the phones taking reactions from this year's crop of nominees.
Steve Buscemi's clock was running a full 10 minutes early this morning. "I’m feeling good!" said the Boardwalk Empire nominee, who called in himself - no rep! - on the way to set. "Right now I’m in the van going to work, and I think it will be a nice day at work. I think this will really be nice for everybody because the show got nominated."
Buscemi's won two SAG awards and a Golden Globe for portraying Nucky Thompson, but no Emmy yet. What would a win mean for him?
"If I get the award that would be nice and if I don’t get the award that’s still nice," he says, sending a virtual shrug through the phone. "It really is. I’m just glad that people are watching the show and that it’s being recognized. And if the nomination, or if we win, helps to bring in more viewership then that pleases me to because I really do love the show."
His strategy in preparing for the mammoth Emmy carpet? "I won't think about it until five minutes before." -- Mandell
