Melissa McCarthy, "Bridesmaids"
McCarthy was already a well-established presence on the small screen thanks to seven seasons on "Gilmore Girls," two on "Samantha Who?" and a lead role on CBS' current hit "Mike & Molly." But her film work was mostly limited to bit parts ("Go," "Charlie's Angels," "Life As We Know It"). Her Groundlings pal Kristen Wiig helped change all that by co-writing a female-driven blockbuster-to-be with a knockout part for McCarthy.
What's next for McCarthy: Continuing with "Mike & Molly," co-starring in "Bridesmaids" producer Judd Apatow's "This is 40" with Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, and developing a starring film vehicle of her own.
