How-high rating: Enough bong tokes to provoke giggles at the very names “Cheech” and “Chong.”

Totally deep analysis: Someone might find the sight of Cheech Marin belting a punk-rock tune while clad in a tutu and Mickey Mouse ears funny without any herbal assistance, but we wouldn’t want to prove it. Weed is almost mandatory to enjoy the gags and one-liners that grace this scarcely plotted buddy comedy (when Chong asks Cheech if he would like a hit off of a titanic joint, the response is a grammatically challenged “does Howdy Doody got wooden balls?”). If your high outlasts the movie’s cruelly abbreviated 85 minutes, fear not—Cheech and Chong went on to make a whopping five sequels.
