According to the National Resources Defense Council’s website, the area of Earth’s permanent ice cover is contracting at a rate of 9% each decade. That makes the possibility of flooding from melting ice caps a real concern. Still, humans, like Kevin Costner’s heroic Mariner, evolving to the point of being born with gills to best survive an underwater Earth? It’s best not to take that idea too seriously.
