New on DVD: 'Prometheus,' 'The Raven,' 'Rock of Ages'

Prometheus

Near the end of the 21st century, a team of explorers travels to a distant planet in search of the origins of humanity. What they find in this Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi thriller is a secret that could bring about humanity's end. The cast includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce.

USA TODAY's Claudia Puig says three stars out of four: "The special effects in Prometheus may be the most dazzling of any film this year, and not since Avatar has 3-D technology been put to such vividly mesmerizing use."

The Raven

Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusask) races against time to stop a serial killer who is acting out the murders in Poe's mysteries in 19th-century Baltimore. Poe is joined in this pursuit by a police detective (Luke Evans), who initially suspects the author for the crimes. Puig: * * 1/2

Rock of Ages
2012, Warner Bros., PG-13, $29; DVD+Blu-ray, $36

A pair of would-be singers (Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta) struggle to find fame and fortune, but refuse to give up on their dreams in this adaptation of the 2006 Broadway play. Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise and Catherine Zeta-Jones also star. Puig: * 1/2

The Courier

A down-on-his-luck hacker (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is given the task of delivering a mysterious suitcase to an infamous assassin, or else. But first he has to find this elusive killer, and bodies pile up every time he thinks he's getting close.
