You loved the movie, what about the DVD?

Find out as we examine the extras on this week's best movie DVDs...

"OBSERVE AND REPORT"

Stars: Seth Rogen, Ray Liotta, Anna Faris
Director: Jody Hill ("The Foot Fist Way")
Format: DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "It's a film made with the naughty rush of kids getting away with something crazy behind their parents' backs."

Extras: DVD: None.
Blu-ray: Commentary by Rogen, Faris and Hill; “Seth Rogen & Anna Faris: Unscripted” and “Basically Training” featurettes; “Forest Ridge Mall: Security Recruitment Video”; deleted and alternate scenes; gag reel; digital copy.

Worth watching: The commentary, deleted and alternate scenes, and “Unscripted” featurette—which basically collects more alternate scenes of Rogen and Farris—are all really funny.
Worth skipping: Ironically, the gag reel isn't that funny.
Worth adding: A second commentary by Kevin James, Steve Carr, Nick Bakay and other people who worked on the similar but safer "Paul Blart: Mall Cop."

Buy, rent or ignore: Rent the Blu-ray; Ignore the DVD.

"GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST"
Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas
Director: Mark Waters ("Mean Girls")
Formats: DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "Why does Hollywood have such a knack for getting romantic comedies so wrong? Who knows, but they owe it to performers like Garner to find a way to do better."

Extras: DVD: None.
Blu-ray: “Recreating the Past, Imaging the Future,” “It's All About Connor” and “The Legends, the Lessons and the Ladies” featurettes; deleted scenes; BD-Live Exclusive: “A Sea of Women”; digital copy.

Worth watching: “It's All About Connor” has Garner, Lacey Chabert and Anne Archer dishing on McConaughey, which is entertaining if you like that kind of stuff.
Worth skipping: “The Legends, the Lessons and the Ladies” featurette, in which McConaughey and Douglas talk about playing ladies' men. Like those two have any luck with the ladies.
Worth adding: Footage of Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and Meg Ryan pulling aside Garner and co-star Emma Stone for career interventions.

Buy, rent or ignore: Ignore.

"BATTLE FOR TERRA"
Stars: Evan Rachel Wood, Justin Long, Dennis Quaid
Director: Aristomenis Tsirbas ("The Freak")
Formats: DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "Maybe aliens have an age group that will enjoy this, but humans don't."

Extras: Commentary by Tsirbas; the original “Terra” short film; deleted scenes; storyboards; “The Making of 'Battle for Terra'” featurette; trailer.

Worth watching: If you like the movie, you'll also like the original short film that inspired it.
Worth skipping: Looking at storyboards is never interesting.
Worth adding: A second commentary featuring some of the cast (which also includes Luke Wilson, Danny Glover, Amanda Peet, Chris Evans, James Garner and more). Preferably the ones who like animated movies and aren't under the mistaken impression they voiced a video game.

Buy, rent or ignore: Rent.
