Fall will be filled with famous faces when the new TV season kicks off. Among them:

Miley Cyrus has joined the cast of Two and a Half Men for a short guest arc. CBS announced on Monday that the singer and actress will star as Missi, an old family friend of Walden (Ashton Kutcher's character), who comes to visit for a week. She will develop a relationship with Jake (Angus T. Jones), when he comes home from the Army. Season 10 starts Sept. 27 on CBS.

SNL's Abby Elliott will appear in a multi-episode arc on the upcoming season of How I Met Your Mother, which kicks off Sept. 24, also on CBS. She'll play "Janeane, the craziest girl the HIMYM gang has ever encountered," executive producer Craig Thomas tells Entertainment Weekly.

And, slated for 2013: A&E Network's Bates Motel series (from Lost producer Carlton Cuse) is tapping Vera Farmiga, 39, to portray Norma Louise Bates, the mother of young Norman Bates.
