It seems like some of the problems with the polarizing star started way back.
When Chucky creator Don Mancini was asked by USA TODAY to discuss Heigl's early role in 1998's Bride of Chucky, he had very little to say about the then-fledgling actress.
"Put it this way, she and Chucky definitely butted heads," Mancini said after a pause. "She was obviously a very talented actress….with a very headstrong personality. I'll leave it at that."
"I've probably said too much already," Mancini added.
The 19-year-old Heigl survived her Chucky encounter onscreen, unlike co-stars John Ritter and director John Waters who had a memorable cameo. Heigl even delivered the final blows to Chucky in the horror-comedy film before moving onto movie and television stardom.
But Mancini does say, "I still think it's her best role."
The Curse of Chucky, the six in the horror line, came out on DVD/Blu-Ray on Tuesday. Heigl's role is part of the 25th anniversary package, Chucky: The Complete Collection.
In the DVD extras Mancini points out that even then it was obvious that Heigl was "extremely talented and was going to go places."
