Actors Theatre of Louisville — the venerable arts group founded in 1964 — launches a string of celebrations for the year leading up to its 50th anniversary.
First celebratory undertaking: Saturday’s nine-hour block party with a bevy ofand activities. It all happens from 1 to 10 p.m. on Main Street between Third and Fourth streets. And, yes, there will be food.
Children can watch performances by the Blue Apple Players and StageOne among others and participate in activities like learning about stage makeup.
Other local arts groups, including the Louisville Ballet, Savage Rose Classical Theatre Company and the University of Louisville Cardinal Singers will perform. Area musicians, including Ben Sollee, also are on the roster. And Actors will treat guests to behind-the-scenes tours and a prop and costume sale.
In addition, Actors Theatre Art Gallery opens “50 Years, 50 Great Moments,” a special exhibition of photographs documenting the theater’s history that runs through Oct. 26 and includes many from The Courier-Journal.
