Cosmetics titan CoverGirl picked singer Janelle Monae for its latest ad campaign.
The woman celebrated as a "different kind of diva" by Vogue just wrapped her first CoverGirl advertising shoot. The 10-page campaign is scheduled to debut in the September issue of Vogue next week.
Monae whose concept album, The Arch Android, was acclaimed, is known for her voice, her high-energy performances and her willingness to cross genres. She also has become a style icon with her signature black-tie wardrobe and a towering hairstyle known as a "Monae."
By becoming the face of CoverGirl, she says she's on a mission, according to the brand's press release.
"I believe it's time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them," she says.
Esi Eggleston Bracey, VP and general manager of the brand, called her "a true force of energy." And said, "e're elated and can't wait to show the world another dimension of her artistic 'superpowers' as a member of our CoverGirl family."
