I moved from my state to this one because I had always wanted to be close to my favorite bar. The ratio is always good and they always have a band on the deck that isn't so loud you have to scream to talk. They stay open till 4am and it's never empty even on Monday or Tuesday night. Food is okay and good size servings and I never have trouble finding a pool table. My favorite part is the bartenders and how quick they are. There is also a newer Diamonds on Barrett which is bigger and nice, but doesn't have the atmosphere as this one does to me. I've tested out many bars all over Louisville and this one takes the cake :-)

This Tavern was around for 80 years and was a great dive bar. It no longer exists.

Tucker's blends good food, plenty of TV screens, friendly servers, and reasonable prices for a great local spot for families to watch their favorite sports, and have a good time. When you want to cheer and chew, check out Tucker's!
Carlymac wrote about Pizza Place
My husband and I are visiting Louisville for the 1st time and found the Pizza Place near our hotel. Our pizza, salad and bread sticks were very good, but even better was the service!!! Our server made recommendations for must sees and places to have a good time! We were very impressed with everything!!!

Pizza is great but go on a Friday or Saturday night and the drinks are weak, saw barmaid pocket my money as a tip. I know the difference between Jack Daniels and a shelf whiskey, sent it back and was told i DID NOT NO MY DRINK. Rudeness and talking on phone and texting must be a job requirment, but again best pizza.
DJFierceTease wrote about Flip Flop Jack's
I recently checked out Flip Flop Jack's because I heard about their LED dancefloor and great set-up. The stories were all true! The dancefloor is the most eye-catching piece of the venue since it is lit up and moves to the beat of the music. The drink specials were good and the bartenders very attentive. Can't beat that! This is definitely a place to check out if you haven't been yet.

Used to be a great bar back when it was run by Paul Harshaw and company. All the cool people who worked there are long gone and replaced by meatheads who have been known to slap drinks out of people's hands and generally act like DBs. If you want to have a few drinks and check out Paul and other local artists work without the commercialism of the st james artfair in a cool laid back atmosphere similar to the old outlook, support local artists and have a few drinks at a bar devoid of steroid injecting nobs who don't deserve your support check out the unfair held at the Mag Bar on 2nd and Magnolia coinciding with the St James Art Fair Oct 5th-7th.

The new Diamond's on Barrett has great tvs but the staff are rude and only interested in waiting on 20 something crowd which is by far the majority of the bar. After sitting at the bar for 50 minutes while every one around us was waited on, we called the restaurant to ask for a manager, no mgr onsite on Saturday evening. The hourly supervisor told me my request to receive service was interferring with his other customers. Interesting service model. I would NEVER recommend this place.
chee wrote about New Direction Bar & Grill
Made the trek across town to hear my favorite local band, Soul Circus, at New Direction. The band was great (as always) but not sure that even those guys are enough to make me return. First, the food was mediocre even for a bar. Took forever to get and I've had way better wings in any number of dives. The loaded fries came lukewarm with a gob of congealed cheese on top and smothered in so much sour cream (which I had asked to be left off) you couldn't taste anyting else. The waitress was friendly and generally checked often enough but the boss seriously needed to tell her to put some clothes on. The flip flops, short flouncy skirt, and lingerie top without a bra were not appropriate for several reasons. She bent over a table in front of us and we all got a shot of Willie Nelson coochie. When I went to get a glass of water, I was told "we don't do that" and sold a bottle instead. Drinks come in very small glasses The "tall" drinks come in a mini-mug and aren't much more than what you would get regularly in most bars. When the band came on, the tvs stayed turned up. We had to ask that the volume on the tv near the stage be turned down. Took a couple of songs but eventually was. There are floor issues for women in heels. The floor around the bar is elevated and extends further than necessary. Caught it twice when trying to walk through the crowd. Also, took a step back while standing on the patio and stepped right into a hole in the concrete. Bathroom was okay once you got around the garbage can sitting in a chair right inside the door. Crowd was not friendly in general and downright rude in a couple of instances. Other than hearing some good funk, was not worth the trip and we ended up leaving during the third set.

The Monkey Wrench is Louisville's only combination "Bear Bar" and Ole Fashion Roman style Vomitorium! If you love hairy men and eating food that will leave you retching, you will LOVE this place! Bring your own wetwipes, you'll need 'em!!!
