The Bristol Bar & Grille opened its first location on Bardstown Road in September 1977. Since then, several more Bristol locations have sprung up around Louisville. Just in time for warm weather, a new Bristol recently opened in Jeffersonville, complete with outdoor patio seating.
The Bar Hopper stopped by on a recent Saturday night to enjoy the gorgeous view of the Ohio River and downtown Louisville from the patio. Okay, so I really went to enjoy some green chili won-tons ($5.99 for a half order), one of the Bristol's most popular appetizers. But the view and the cool breezes made for a nice night.
And then it started to rain.
Just after my husband and I ordered our dinner -- I went for the crab cakes ($14.99) and he opted for the grilled teriyaki salmon ($15.99) -- we began to feel rain drops sprinkle our arms. Our fast and friendly server quickly found us a table inside and had us seated with our plates long before the rainfall got heavier.
The bar and dining areas inside this new Bristol are just as clean and classy as in other locations, with soft music and lighting creating a modern, mellow atmosphere. This Jeffersonville location, however, felt a bit more laid-back than others, with a couple of TVs for sports fans and lots of laughter from chatty patrons having a good time.
The classy yet casual feel of the place made it easier for me to relax with my glass of wine. A fan of white and medium to sweet wine, I tried the Riesling Reichsgraf Von Kesselstatt for $4.95.
The Bristol has delicious food, but takes pride in its extensive and impressive wine list. The list includes detailed descriptions of the offerings and suggestions on how to pair the wine with food.
Last fall marked the Bristol's 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, the folks in charge announced that Bristol's wine would be offered at wine shop prices through September. This means all summer long you can head over to the new Jeffersonville Bristol and not only enjoy outdoor dining, a great view and great food, but discounted wine prices as well.
The Bristol Bar & Grille in Jeffersonville, which also serves breakfast and lunch, is open from 6:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to midnight on Saturday. The bar is open until 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sunday breakfast starts at 7 a.m., brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., with the bar open until midnight.
