It’s a first for Pyro Gallery. Since 2004, when it took its name from the old firehouse that was its first home on South Hancock Street, this artists’ cooperative has mostly featured work by its members. With “The Human Condition,” its current show, the gallery at 624 W. Main St. marks its first juried exhibit.
The 23 artists’ work was selected by member Debra Lott. The artists, who come from Indianapolis, Lexington, Elizabethtown and other regional cities, were asked to reflect the show’s title in their work. They’ve met that task via a variety of approaches — painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Lott also has included some of her work that befits the theme.
The exhibition runs through Aug. 19. For more information, call (502) 587-0106 or visit www.pyrogallery.com.
(Another exhibit holding an opening reception tonight is “PRESSURE,” curated by The Ground Floor Gallery with installations and sculptures for each room of Zephyr Gallery, 610 E. Market St. For more information, call (502) 585-5646 or visit zephyrgallery.org.)
